In Jim Fletcher's weekly commentary, he pointed out some examples where the press leave out key details of their reports on the conflicts between Israel and the Palestinians. What is left out makes Israel look like the perpetrator when the truth is the other way around. He makes a good point about this perspective not being rational… why would a small kid on a playground surrounded by a dozen thuggish kids do anything to provoke them?
He gives a reason why the media fawns over the Arabs and is so biased against Israel calling it self-preservation. I agree that there may be some of this. It is a natural response to fear the wrath of aggressive hateful people. People who do not have God’s perspective are easily given to fear. “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind” (2 Timothy 1:7, NKJ).
While admitting fear may be a factor in some cases, I think the main reason the Left is biased against Israel is that they are ideologically aligned with those who hate Israel. A world view that opposes God opposes the people God chose to record His word and from whom the Messiah came. But it is very dangerous to oppose God and the apple of His eye (Zechariah 2:8). “It shall happen in that day that I will make Jerusalem a very heavy stone for all peoples; all who would heave it away will surely be cut in pieces, though all nations of the earth are gathered against it” (Zechariah 12:3, NKJ)
So as Jim Fletcher said in his excellent article, don’t believe the mainstream media reporting on Israel. It is more important than ever to pray for discernment in these days of dangerous deception.
